Pathar Masheed is situated in the heart of Srinagar, the capital of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Pathar Masheed which literally means the Stone Mosque is certainly one of the most beautiful mosques in the city. It was built by the Moghul Queen Nur Jahan in 1623 AD.
It is believed that the construction was supervised by the renowned architect and a known Mughal historian Malik Hyder Chaudhary. It consists of nine arches in the style of horizontal construction.
During the Sikh rule in Kashmir, this mosque was closed for worship for almost a decade.It was used as a granary and a horse stable.
