Funkar

Funkar International is a US-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts and culture of the Valley of Kashmir. We began this journey as Kashmiri immigrants to the United States, who wanted to share our love of Kashmiri music with our American-born and -raised children. We were dismayed by the lack of high quality recordings of the traditional Kashmiri music, which had been the soundtrack to our childhood. Our efforts began with production of the first audio CD of Kashmiri music in Saaz Tih Avaaz, but we have since broadened our focus to include not only the preservation of traditional Kashmiri music, but to nurture contemporary Kashmiri artists by providing them with opportunities to learn from local and international artists and musicians.
